Physical Therapy Tucson
Physical therapy is more than exercise. Physical therapists are able to help in diagnosis of the sources of pain. For example, when there is limitation in range of motion of a joint this can put abnormal loads on adjacent joints, the spine, etc. A physical therapy evaluation can help to discover when problems with movement of joints are the cause of your pain. Physical therapists are the only health care providers who get to see how a patient moves and responds to exercise on a regular basis and that puts them in a perfect position to track progress in healing. At IPCA we rely on physical therapists to provide information on how a patient is progressing and what barriers to progress may exist. We often use that information about barriers to progress – we may change our treatment plan to help overcome the barriers identified by the physical therapist. Physical therapists develop a unique healing relationship with patients, as well. During the rehabilitation phase of healing, it is often the physical therapist who guides the patients forward.
The IPCA providers value physical therapists who communicate well with the rest of the care team to identify the problem, define barriers to progress, and participate to create a plan of treatment that truly puts the patient at the center. We refer to physical therapy programs that value this as well, and we strive to support a healing therapist-patient relationship.
