Several months ago, I attended an Interdisciplinary Telephone Conference initiated by the Integrative Pain Center of Arizona. This conference was also attended by the patient’s PCP and several members of the IPC staff. In my opinion, this conference was an absolutely essential part of the patient’s medical care, and should be included in the care of any patient with chronic pain who is treated with opiates. As a gastroenterologist, I see many patients with GI issues related to chronic opiate use. This was the first time in my 35-year experience that such a conference was held. I certainly hope to be a part of more conferences like this.
